De Toren Edition Z

In celebration of 15 years of excellence, De Toren presents Edition Z, affectionately known as “Zee.” This red blend, inspired by the rich heritage of the estate, charts a golden path for its future. Crafted as a homage to the iconic “Z,” this wine is a testament to meticulous vine care and winemaking elevated to an art form. It embodies the essence of a Right-bank Bordeaux Styled Blend, skillfully blending five Bordeaux varietals.

Edition Z is the result of a thoughtful design, originating from cool, ocean-facing vineyards with high clay content, particularly conducive to Merlot cultivation. Fondly named “Zee” after the refreshing Zephyr breeze that air-conditions the ocean-fronting vineyard block, this ruby-hued beauty showcases all the ‘Noble Five’ Bordeaux varietals, with Merlot taking center stage.

This South African interpretation of Bordeaux’s renowned Right Bank-style red wine stands as a testament to the loving care bestowed upon the vines. Its unique character has not gone unnoticed, especially by the discerning 2012 judging panel at Mundus Vini, a prestigious international wine competition. Among the 6,000 entries, the De Toren Edition Z 2018 vintage, produced on a modest 22 hectares in the Polkadraai Hills overlooking Stellenbosch, proudly secured the coveted Gold medal.

Additionally aged in a climatized barrel/ maturation room (16 degrees Celsius at 80% humidity) for 12 months in a combination of new, second and third fill, 225 LitreOak barrels. French Oak is predominantly used during maturation, with a portion of the Malbec receiving the benefit of American Oak.
