Dr Goodvine Mother`s Little Helper Chardonnay
The grapes are sourced from a secluded vineyard nestled between Vermaaklikheid, Riversdale, and Heidelberg. Here, the vines thrive in pure limestone soils less than 10km from the ocean. This unique coastal position exposes the vines to harsh elements throughout the year, but the ripening period remains cool and moderate. These distinct conditions result in fruit with remarkable depth of flavor and a truly unique character.
The grapes are hand-picked in the early morning, carefully sorted, and then destemmed before pressing. The juice is cold-settled overnight, then transferred to French oak barrels and Italian amphorae for a two-week fermentation. After fermentation, the wine ages for an additional 11 months, split evenly between barrique and amphorae, receiving only a light fining and filtration before bottling.
On the nose, you’ll find fresh scents of green lime and pear with subtle herbal undertones, all beautifully supported by carefully managed oak. The palate reveals a distinctive salty minerality from the limestone soils, complemented by bright citrus notes and a well-balanced natural acidity. This is a delicate yet complex Chardonnay that pairs wonderfully with a variety of foods and is sure to age gracefully.
