Sagra Red

Sagra is a tribute to Thierry‘s grandmothers. It is an old Corsican name meaning sacred. This beautiful blend of Grenache (70%) and Syrah (30%) Grapes is sourced from 2 single blocks situated next to each other on a beautiful little hill in Wellington district, on the way to the west coast. Open to the ocean on the south side this clay based with a variation of quartz and schist vineyard benefits every afternoon of a cooling effect from the ocean. Both Grenache, head trained, and Syrah on short cordon, are dry farmed. At maturity, they are picked the same day and co-fermented. A very gentle extraction with no pumping action during the vinification followed by 36 months in a mix of 500L and 225L barrel reveals Sagra with all her qualities – kindness with finesse, elegance and silky tannins dedication with a definition of red fruit layered with a touch of violet and bitter chocolate tradition with natural acidity giving a beautiful long finish.
